Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 26, 2026
Veraclimb is built privacy-first. Your climbing videos are analyzed entirely on your iPhone. There is no account, no upload, and nothing about your climbs is sent to us. This policy explains the small amount of data the app does touch and why.
The short version: your video and movement analysis never leave your device. We don't have an account system and we never receive your footage, your pose data, or your logbook. The only data that ever leaves your phone is an optional, anonymous crash report (no personal information) and — if you turn it on — iCloud sync into your own private iCloud account that we cannot read.
1. Who we are
Veraclimb ("we", "us") is an independent iOS app. You can reach us any time at [email protected].
2. Video, camera, and movement analysis — on your device only
The core of Veraclimb is on-device movement analysis. When you record or import a clip, the app uses Apple's Vision framework to estimate your body pose and then plain geometry to turn that into movement numbers (such as a smoothness measure or a foot-cut flag).
- This processing happens 100% on your iPhone. Your video, the extracted body-pose data, and the resulting analysis are never uploaded and are never received by us or any third party.
- The body-pose data is a stick-figure of joint positions used purely for movement coaching. It does not identify you — Veraclimb performs no facial recognition and no identity matching.
- Camera and photo-library access (when you grant it) are used only locally to capture or import a clip for analysis.
3. Your logbook and settings
Your sends, grades, sessions, goals, notes, and app settings are stored locally on your device using Apple's on-device storage. We do not have a server that holds your logbook, and we cannot see it.
4. Optional iCloud sync
If you enable iCloud sync (a Pro feature), your logbook is synced through your own private iCloud (CloudKit) database, under your Apple ID. This is handled by Apple and stored in your iCloud account under your iCloud terms. We do not operate that storage and we cannot read it. You can turn sync off at any time in the app's settings.
5. Apple Health (optional)
If you opt in, Veraclimb can write a workout entry to Apple Health when you log a session. This stays on your device under Apple's Health permissions and is never sent to us. You control this in the app and in iOS Settings, and you can revoke it at any time.
6. Crash diagnostics
To keep the app stable, Veraclimb uses Sentry (an open-source crash-reporting tool) to collect anonymous crash diagnostics — only if the app crashes. These reports contain technical information about the crash (such as the device model, OS version, and a stack trace). They are configured to contain no personally identifiable information, and they never include your video, pose data, or logbook. Sentry processes this data on our behalf as a service provider. If no crash occurs, nothing is sent.
7. Purchases
Subscriptions and the one-time purchase are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store (StoreKit). We never see or receive your payment details — Apple processes payment, billing, cancellation, and refunds. Your purchase status is reflected on your device by Apple's system.
8. On-device performance metrics
iOS may collect aggregate, on-device performance metrics (such as launch time, hangs, and crashes) via Apple's MetricKit to help the app run smoothly. This stays on your device and is not uploaded to us.
9. Analytics & tracking
Veraclimb does not use advertising, cross-app tracking, or third-party analytics SDKs. We do not build a profile of you, and we do not sell or share personal information.
10. Children
Veraclimb is intended for climbers and is not directed to or intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because the app requires no account and collects no personal data on a server, there is nothing for us to collect.
11. Your rights and choices
Because your data lives on your device, you are in direct control of it:
- Access & export: you can export your logbook as a CSV file from within the app.
- Deletion: deleting an entry, or deleting the app, removes the associated data from your device. If iCloud sync is enabled, deletions propagate through your own iCloud account.
- Permissions: camera, photo, and Health access can be revoked any time in iOS Settings.
12. For users in the EU / UK (GDPR)
Because your video, pose data, and logbook are processed on your device and never transmitted to us, we are not the controller of that information — there is little personal data for us to control. For the limited data that does reach us, we act as the controller:
- Crash diagnostics are processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the app stable, and are configured to exclude personal information. Sentry acts as our processor.
- Purchases are processed by Apple under your agreement with Apple.
You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, and objection. Since the data is on your device, most of these are satisfied directly in the app; for anything else, contact us at [email protected]. Veraclimb does not perform biometric identification or categorization of people.
13. For users in California (CCPA/CPRA)
We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising. As described above, the app collects no personal information on a server.
14. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, note it in the app. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
